01 INTRODUCTION
The REPURPOSED RELIGION performances, the first of which occurred in Los Angeles on October 25th, 2023, are the initial activations for this grander project of custom couture experiences through 77EAVEN.
I envision this new endeavor entitled 77EAVEN, as a means to offer custom couture experiences to select invitees. Through blending the traditional fashion retail model with the contemporary gallery art sales structure, we will be offering a custom Preston Douglas painting, couture outfit, and experiential photoshoot that immerses the individual in a collaborative world we create together.
After working on the Mark Flood x 1017 ALYX 9SM collection in Milan earlier this year, and attending the Givenchy show, I was inspired when I returned to my studio in New York. There is such an energy around the performance and inherent humanity of fashion that I’ve been missing in my painting practice and exhibitions. Reimagining the realm of fashion, 77EAVEN will not have any clothes for sale directly, as the only way to participate is to be invited for one of these custom couture experiences.
These 77EAVEN experiences will range from $10,000 - $100,000 depending on scope and scale. We are getting ready to invite our initial client for a 77EAVEN experience and an individual can be added to the waitlist by emailing our design studio at: info@prestondouglas.us

02 ARTISTIC CONCEPT
I became a Certified Addiction Recovery Coach earlier this year, and that process shifted my perspective on how to go about creating meaningful change in people’s lives through art. I love creating beauty, as that is what drew me into fashion and painting in the first place, but I hope to create spaces and experiences for individuals and audiences through 77EAVEN and REPURPOSED RELIGION that lead to their personal, spiritual growth.

I see REPURPOSED RELIGION as a communal version of the individualized couture 77EAVEN experiences. REPURPOSED RELIGION is a spiritual, nonreligious, immersive performance centered around dance, sound, and fashion. These events are channeled atmospheres of faith through the lens of art, that function in and through the frequency of our collective consciousness.

REPURPOSED RELIGION is the eponymous name of the 8 track album that will be played at the first events.
This album will be released to the public January 1, 2024 - exactly one year to the day that the idea was conceived
About Preston Douglas
Preston Douglas (b.1995) is a multidisciplinary artist who works between painting, fashion, and performance, whose work considers how these forms can create spiritual, nonreligious, atmospheres of faith for collective unity. His paintings are both remnants of performances and starting points for installations, addressing how surfaces can allude to both beauty and darkness through examining contemporary cultural conviction. His main studio is currently in LA.

03 PREVIOUS PERFORMANCE

I raised a small-scale, proof of concept budget for the first iteration of the REPURPOSED RELIGION performance, a 43 minute multidisciplinary performance produced by Jesse Fox Hallen of Maya Studios. Jacquelyne Jay Boe choreographed to REPURPOSED RELIGION, the eponymous name of the 8 song album, executive produced by Luke XO, with the intention of melding underground club and contemporary worship music. The garments were produced by the first 77EAVEN Chief Design Officer, Thomas Luke Johnson, who seamlessly fuses his passion for avant-garde fashion history, an unwavering commitment to detail drawn from his Japanese heritage, and an unrelenting quest to unearth the purpose woven into the very essence of the garments we created.

04 PARIS PERFORMANCE

My goal is to produce REPURPOSED RELIGION in Paris, as a full circle moment to the year prior. This version of the performance would have a larger budget allowing for more creativity and exploration around garment design and choreographic possibilities, including a movement choir. Paris has always been the ultimate fashion week, and since I started in fashion almost 10 years ago, it only feels right to begin this new phase of my artistic journey there. I am currently looking to raise $50,000 - $100,000 to make this Paris performance a reality.
I hope that these public performances and custom couture experiences can provide a transformative process at an integral time in people's lives.

05 EXPANSION PLAN
This is the first large scale REPURPOSED RELIGION event.
We are starting small and scaling up. I am thinking about this project as a living, breathing, and growing entity. Each performance will expand upon the previous.
We will eventually build up to a 14 person core, traveling movement choir and the clothing will change for each show. The music will grow and change as well. We will continue to produce these performances all around the world.

06 CONCEPT DESIGN
We will increase the diameter of the circle depending upon budget, venue, number of dancers and attendees.
The performance will always occur in a circle as the audience becomes part of the performance.
